    PLBN Sota New Icon Indonesian Eastern Boundary

    The Ministry of PUPR will complete the construction of the Sota Cross-border Post (PLBN) in Papua at the end of 2019. This is the Government's commitment to continue the development of the PLBN until 2021, in accordance with the Nawacita mandate initiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) five years ago, namely "Building from the periphery ".

    PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said, at present the Sota border crossers, which are around 80 kilometers from Merauke, are around 20-25 people every day.

    "We will improve the facilities, although not as big as Skouw in Jayapura, so that in addition to the defense and security function, it can be a destination for people to see the border in southern Papua. This will become a new icon in Eastern Indonesia, "said Basuki, in a written statement, Sunday (11/24/2019).

    The aim is to make the border area which is often also referred to as the backyard of the State of Indonesia, a front porch to be proud of.

    The Sota PLBN is an additional crossing post that borders between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The Sota PLBN became the second cross-border post in Papua after the Skouw PLBN in Jayapura was corrected. In addition, there is also the Yetetkun PLBN in Boven Digoel Regency which is included in the development plan.

    In the core zone PLBN will be built, confiscated warehouses, clinics, Garuda monuments, gate and check point buildings, and supported by access roads, and the availability of parking lots.

    As for the sub-core zone, employees' homes, Indonesian guesthouses and supporting zones will be built in the form of rest areas, churches, prayer rooms, parking and renovation of the Sota Market, which is equipped with 13 trade stalls. For other supporting zones, it is equipped with a rest area.

    Residential infrastructure for residents around the border will also be built such as drinking water supply systems (SPAM), waste treatment facilities, provision of MCK and communal septic tanks, environmental roads and drainage for communities around the border.

    In 2019, the Ministry of PUPR will build 4 Integrated PLBNs out of 10 PLBNs regulated in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 1 of 2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Development of 11 Integrated State Cross-border Posts and Supporting Infrastructure Facilities in Border Areas. Four PLBNs to be built are Jagoi Babang PLBN in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan Province, Sota in Merauke Regency, Papua Province and 2 PLBNs in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province, namely Sei Pancang Sebatik and Long Midang.

    Other PLBNs that will be built in the next stage are Serasan PLBN in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province, Napan in North East Central District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Yetetkun Waropko District in Boven Digoel Regency, Papua Province, Long Nawang in Malinau Regency, Jasa-Sei Kelik in Regency Sintang, and Labang in Nunukan Regency in East Kalimantan Province.
