Vocational High School Students in Papua Assemble Helicopters

The Jokowi Government has facilitated more than 400 thousand Vocational High School (SMK) students to participate in vocational education programs that link and match with industry.
    .
The program, which has been launched since 2017, aims to improve the competency of Indonesia's human resources (HR) while reducing unemployment.

    .
At present the program has been implemented in the Papua region. State Vocational High School 5 Waibu Aviation, Jayapura Regency, Papua every two months sends students to Mansoar Flying Club in Raja Ampat, West Papua to learn to assemble helicopters from zero to flying.
    .
"We do indeed have cooperation with Mansoar Flying Club in Raja Ampat, West Papua, the cooperation started last year," said Head of the 5th Aviation Vocational School Waibu Budi Riyanto in Sentani, Jayapura Regency, on Tuesday.
    .
Budi explained that every two months two students were asked to do an internship in Raja Ampat. While there, the two children sent were taught to assemble the 47G-B3-1 bell helicopter from zero to finished and flight test.
    .
"In August 2017, there were already two students we sent there for an internship for two months to assemble a helicopter," he said.
    .
He said that the shipment for the internship at Mansoar Flying Club was strictly selected because it had to be proficient in English because the helicopter's design manual was in English.
    .
Budi added the two students sent by Mansoar Flying Club had good English language skills.
    .
"Incidentally, the two children we sent there for internships, both are native Papuans," he said.
