    Mimika Malaria Free 2020

Mimika Regency is a high malaria endemic area in Papua Province with an incidence of more than 200 cases per 1000 population per year.
    .
This was raised at the malaria sector center cross-section meeting of Mimika Regency, towards 2020 PON-free malaria in 2020 at the Grand Tembaga Hotel, Thursday (11/5). The cross-sector meeting to strengthen the malaria center was officially opened by Johanes Rettob, Deputy Regent of Mimika.
    .
Johanes Rettob who is also the Chairman of the Malaria Control Center in Mimika Regency stressed that malaria has an impact on the decline in the quality of human resources which can cause various social, economic problems and even affect national security.
    .
"I only ask for the implementation of XX PON 2020 in Mimika Regency there are no athletes who are sick of malaria. This is a joint responsibility of both the government and Malaria Control, "said John.
    .
According to him, pain due to malaria will cause economic losses, economic productivity decline in the population. "The number of losses due to the loss of 3-5 days of work time for every family suffering from malaria in 2017 is around Rp. 70 billion to 170 billion.
    .
While in 2018 it is estimated to reach Rp50-120 billion. This loss does not include costs incurred by the government for health services, treatment, prevention and control, "he explained.
    .
Children and pregnant women, he said, are a very vulnerable group who are also directly affected by malaria. In 2017 and 2018 the percentage of cases in children and pregnant women reached 35 percent of the total malaria cases in Mimika.
    .
"Malaria causes death and growth disorders since they are still fetuses. Malaria also inhibits the development of children including cognitive function due to anemia, chronic, brain damage and the absence of children at school is a barrier to the quality of human resources, "he explained.
    .
The magnitude of the impact is caused by malaria, so serious efforts are needed to overcome it. In Indonesia the elimination of malaria has become a national commitment with a target of not later than 2030 all provinces including Papua have been free from malaria.
    .
This is a global commitment listed in the indicator (Sustainable Development Goal's (SDG's). Malaria elimination program must be a consistent movement and have a clear target by involving all components of the community.
