Numbay Port Fishermen Can Help Fishing Vessels

The Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) through the Fisheries Service is providing assistance sourced from the 2019 Special Allocation Fund (DAK), in the form of eight fishing vessels for fishermen native to Port Numbay (Jayapura City). The Head of the Jayapura City Fisheries Service, Matheys Sibi said there were three categories or groups of fishermen in Jayapura City, namely fishermen from Port Numbay, Papua, and Buton, Bugis, Makassar (BBM).
    .
"This assistance is the third year. Every year we budget eight units. In total there are now 24 units of ships of the same size, "said Sibi at the Papua Water Police Pier, Friday (11/22/19). Sibi explained, the fishing boat assistance was brought directly from Makassar City. The ship's body is 100 percent fiber, with a length of 10.5 meters and a width of 1.5 meters equipped with two Yamaha outboard engines (one engine 15 PK).
    .
"The price of a ship of 170 million rupiahs includes machinery and equipment such as fishing rods, nets and compasses. The purpose of this assistance is to empower fishermen. The beneficiaries are a group of fishermen who are already incorporated, "explained Sibi.
    .
According to Sibi, the fisheries sector has an important role in providing food and employment. Thus, the assistance is expected to be able to supply the needs of fish, because fishermen will look for fish such as tuna, mackerel, cakalang and others further.
    .
"Hope we can increase fisheries production and fishermen welfare," said Sibi.
    .
The Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano, after handing over the fishing boat ordered, that aid be used as well as possible for economic improvement. "Don't use it for traveling, but for fishing, and also don't use it for transporting prohibited goods. This assistance is our concern for fishermen in Jayapura City, both Papua and non-Papua, because all of them are entitled to get help, "explained Tomi Mano. (*)
